Why the Importance?

Asbestos is by far the largest workplace killer in the U.K. Currently, 3500 people die from an asbestos-related illness in the U.K. every year. This number is going to rise to up to around 10,000 in the next few decades. Over 600 million tonnes of asbestos containing materials remain in buildings throughout the U.K.

Remember - in 2001, the Health and Safety Commission stated, "Asbestos in very poor condition might be disturbed by somebody just walking past".
